John Smith (Bruce Willis) is a mysterious stranger who is drawn into a vicious war between two Prohibition-era gangs. In a dangerous game, he switches allegiances from one to another, offering his services to the highest bidder. As the death toll mounts, Smith takes the law into his own hands in a deadly race to stay alive. Bruce Dern and Christopher Walken co-star in this American reinterpretation of the 1961 Japanese film Yojimbo.

There are two sides to every war. And John Smith is on both of them.

  • A fine retelling of Yojimbo by Walter Hill with Bruce Willis. This is one of my favorite shoot 'em up movies because of how everyone receives the full impact of the kinetic energy from the bullets when shot. I think the first guy to get shot flies about 20 feet... Awesomeness. Oh yeah, and it has Christopher Walken, baby!
