Nominated for a Palme d'Or at Cannes, this tense Western stars Clint Eastwood (who also directs) as a stranger in a clerical collar who rides into a mining town and comes to the aid of some gold prospectors under the thumb of a ruthless landowner (Richard Dysart). Known as the Preacher, Eastwood's loner can shoot faster and straighter than anyone, and he's unafraid to take on the band of thugs terrorizing the miners.
