My wife and I showed up to the theater on our date night, on the opening day of Batman Begins, with the intention of watching Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I had to use the little boy's room so I asked Kristy to get the tickets for me. When I came out she told me that she wanted to surprise me by taking me to Batman. Does my wife ROCK or what... I've been excited about seeing this movie since I heard Christopher Nolan was directing and Christian Bale was donning the cape. What guy doesn't fascinate about being the Caped Crusader, one of the few superheroes without superpowers who fights extraordinary human villains; which makes him more vulnerable and closer to reality. That's what Batman Begins brings back to the franchise. Even Tim Burton's Batman movies (Let not even talk about the others...) had elements of fantasy (hey, it is a comic book right); but, this movie is grounded closer to reality, and more like the grittier graphic novels, which makes it even better. Christian Bale was an excellent Batman, I hope that he continues the role in future flicks. The movie kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. It's the dark, gritty, fear facing, human Batman I've been waiting for. I'm not going to say this movie was perfect (I don't like pointing out all the little things wrong with movies, what do you think I am... a critic?), but it has definitely restored my childhood imagination of the possibility of being a superhero and my faith in the Batman franchise.
