Jerk, The
1979
Reared by poor black sharecroppers, dim-bulb white boy Navin Johnson (Steve Martin) doesn't realize he isn't black until his parents eventually tell him the truth -- as an adult. The shock of learning he's adopted comes as a big blow, and Navin goes off to make a name for himself. Though he begins his odyssey optimistically, Navin soon discovers it's a cold, cruel world as his journey takes him from rags to riches to rags.
From rags to riches... to rags.
