Adam Sandler portrays Billy Madison, the 27-year-old, nonworking, immature goofball son of Brian Madison (Darren McGavin), who runs a hotel chain and is thinking of retiring, leaving the company to his only son. The elder Madison also considers giving the company to weaselly hotel executive Eric Gordon (Bradley Whitford). In an effort to inherit the company, Billy makes a deal with his father to complete grades 1 through 12 in short order.

To inherit his family's fortune, Billy is going back to school... Way back.
